Disturbed Philadelphia Man Slashes Guard, Gets Shot

A man from Philadelphia was fatally shot on Tuesday after he pulled a knife on a deputy sheriff inside the Chester County Justice Center. This comes five months after he was arrested for scaling a wall of the White House, reports NBC Philadelphia.

The incident took place inside the courthouse in West Chester, Pennsylania on Tuesday morning. The man charged past metal detectors before slashing the deputy sheffif, who received wounds to his arm and hand.

District Attorney Tom Hogan said:

“Curtis Smith, from Coatesville, came directly into the justice center and pulled out a knife and attacked a deputy sheriff, slashing him.”

Another deputy then opened fire on Smith, 34, who received medical care at the scene but shortly after was pronounced dead at hospital.

Criminal defense lawyers in Thailand Chaninat and Leeds have decades of experience handling criminal law cases.

Hogan also identified Smith as the man who made news for allegedly climbing over the outer parameter of the White House last year.

Smith was also accused of domestic violence. His attorney in this case, Lewis Hannah III, called his death “really tragic.”

“He was a truck driver,” he said. “He worked every day, had a family, a wife, you know, you would have never have thought.
