A Thai consumer rights group is calling for the government to make it mandatory for car makers to recall their products once they are faulty.
As Bangkok Post reports, Narumol Makborisut of Foundation for Consumers, said that Thai standards are lacking, and that local car makers do nothing even when their models are found to be defective.
She argues that Thailand’s Consumer Protection Laws are not enough, and that the global trend is for car makers to recall defective cars from markets, however this is never seen in Thailand.
She says: “The car maker should be responsible for recalling its products immediately without compromise if a defect is found. This is standard in foreign countries.”
She cited the Civil Court ruling last week where business lawyers failed to persuade the courts that Chevrolet should stop selling faulty cars.
