College Bans Yoga-Fears it Promotes Hinduism

A new stretching course will take its place

A Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas has banned its yoga classes claiming that it promotes Hindu mysticism and will replace it with a new stretching course called “lifestyle fitness”.

According to Jonathan Turley Blog, the college spokesman insisted that the change was in name only, but critics argue that changes in positional names like “upward dog” suggest that the change is simply to anything that could be regarded as being “Hinduy”.

The school authorities claimed that they were only “responding to objections from alumni, students, faculty and some administrators who felt that they were giving up their Christian identity in stretching out.”

Benedictine College students are now holding a petition drive to have the embarrassing decision reversed.
