According to the New York Times, Chinese blogger Lu Yuyu has been given a four-year prison sentence for blogging about mass unrest in the country.
He was convicted of ‘picking quarrels and provoking trouble’, a charge usually used to prosecute political dissent. Recently, the law has expanded to cover online activities, too.

Lu had posted about strikes, protests and riots in response to labor unrest, pollution, corruption and land confiscation. These incidents usually went unreported in the mainstream Chinese media. He has appealed the conviction. His wife was also charged, but received a suspended sentence.
