A motorcycle driver in Beijing has been detained after speeding at 237 km/h on the city’s ring road, reports BBC.
The driver has been identified as a 30 year old man. He was initially held in the southern Guangxei region and bought back to Beijing.

He made a 37.5 km lap on the road that circles Beijing in 13 minutes and 43 seconds, achieved by driving three times the official limit.
A video of the escapade has since gone viral in China.
In 2013, Thailand ranked third in the world for traffic deaths. Earlier this year, Bangkok Post reported that this statistic had risen to second.
Thai authorities have previously announced a long-term national policy to improve road safety, from 2011 – 2020. The target is to reduce road deaths by 50% by 2020.
According to this report, motorcycle accidents see the most fatalities, the main causes for accidents are speed violations, human error and illegal overtaking.

A prominent Thai road accident case was that of Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya, who crashed her car into a passenger van killing nine people in 2011 when she was just 17. Now aged 21, the criminal case has ended, however a 120 million baht civil case is expected to follow.
There has been considerable upset among the Thai public surrounding the case, not only as Praewa appeared to show little remorse, but also as it was generally felt she was receiving special treatment due to her affluent family who are well known in Bangkok high society.
