Chelsea Manning ends hunger strike to receive gender surgery
IANS live reports that U.S soldier and whistleblower Chelsea Manning has ended her hunger strike in prison after the Army accepted her demand to receive gender transition surgery according to American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
The soldier who is currently serving a 35 year prison sentence for leaking classified information to the public announced her hunger strike September 9th this year.
In her statement she said “I am unendingly relieved that the military is finally doing the right thing. I applaud them for that. This is all that I wanted — for them to let me be me.”

The 28 year old soldier was born a male but later announced that she identifies herself as female. Manning was a former intelligence analyst in Iraq who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for supplying more than 700,000 documents, videos, diplomatic cables and battlefield accounts to the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks.
