Cambodian Prime Minister Calls for Center for Human Rights to be Shut Down

by Admin on November 28, 2017

According to Radio Free Asia, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has called for a leading human rights organization to be shut down because “it was created by foreigners, not Cambodians”.

The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Interior to investigate the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR), stating that it “will have to be shut down” because it was “commissioned in accordance with foreign ideas”.

Kem Sokha, founder of CCHR, was arrested in September for allegedly collaborating with the U.S. to overthrow the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP). As a result, Cambodia’s Supreme Court unanimously ruled earlier this month that the CNRP should be dissolved.
