Burmese Workers Prefer Jobs In Thailand

Large-scale commercial building projects in Rangoon are reportedly being delayed by a shortage of skilled labor because qualified Burmese workers prefer working in Thailand.

Despite allegations of difficult working conditions by some Burmese workers in Thailand, The Irawaddy reports that the higher wages earned in Thailand are more attractive to the workers than jobs at home and have more  sway than over the long working hours and poor conditions

Burma, officially known as Myanmar, desperately needs more hotel accommodation as it struggles to the demands of its booming tourism industry. Some major hotel developments in Rangoon are way behind schedule, with labor shortages prominent among the reasons.
