Broken Promises: US Tech Firms Violate EU Privacy Commitments

by Admin on August 20, 2014

A privacy group, the Center for Digital Democracy, is accusing thirty U.S. data brokers and data management firms of violating the privacy of EU residents, reports InfoWorld.

The CDD filed a complaint to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission against the companies, which include Adobe Systems, AOL, and Salesforce.com, saying they have failed to abide by the EU Safe Harbor commitments they agreed to.

The business attorneys at Chaninat and Leeds specialize in Thailand company registration for limited companies and partnerships for Thais and foreigners.

The complaint said, “The commercial surveillance of EU consumers by U.S. companies, without consumer awareness or meaningful consent, contradicts the fundamental rights of EU citizens and European data protection law.”

According to InfoWorld, the CDD is calling for an investigation and for the program to be suspended, and is criticizing the FTC and the U.S. Department of Commerce for not fully enforcing the Safe Harbor.
