For the first time in the United States, a state court has upheld a Modern Orthodox-sponsored prenuptial agreement.
The Connecticut case involves the protection of “agunot,” a term used to describe Jewish women whose husbands refuse to grant them religious divorce.
According to her prenuptial agreement, Rachel Light may be eligible to receive $100,000 from her husband, whom she’s been separated from for several years. Her agreement stated that she receive $100 for every day her husband refuses granting her a divorce.
