According to a traffic index released by TomTom, Mexico City was once again reported to have the worst traffic congestion with drivers spending about 66% extra travel time stuck in traffic.
Bangkok was a close second (61%) followed by Jakarta (58%), Chongqing (52%) and Bucharest (50%) making up the top five most congested cities in the world.
Other countries with bad traffic congestion were Istanbul (49%), Chengdu (47%), Rio de Janeiro (47%), Tainan (46%) and Beijing (46%).

The data used for the traffic index spanned over 390 cities in 48 countries on six continents with nearly 19 trillion data points that have been accumulated over nine years.
The report found that between 2015 and 2016, North America’s traffic congestion had increased by 5%, Europe’s by 9%, Asia and Oceania by 12%, South America by 7%, and Africa by 15%, marking a global rising of 10%.
