Aung San Suu Kyi Faces Procesution Charges for Rohingya Crisis

by Admin on March 20, 2018

The leader of the Myanmar government, Aung San Suu Kyi is currently visiting Australia where she may face charges of crimes against humanity. Attorneys in Melbourne are finding it difficult to proceed with the private prosecution as they still need consent from the Attorney General.

Australia recognizes the “principal of universal jurisdiction”, which means Australian courts have the jurisdiction to hear allegations of criminal offences under international law. These may include genocide, an offense the legal team made up of human rights lawyers in Australia are seeking to charge against the Ms. Suu Kyi.

Expert divorce lawyers in Thailand advise that it matters where the marriage was registered in order to follow the correct jurisdiction proceedings for prenuptial agreements in Thailand.

The legal team has appeared before Australian magistrate court on Friday alleging Ms. Suu Kyi of not using her position of power to stop the Myanmar security forces from removing the Rohingya people from their homes through violent actions such as killings, rape and destruction of property.

The private prosecution application to the Attorney General’s office should receive a response next week, says a spokesperson from the legal team.
