Malaysia’s newly passed National Security Council Act allows the government to declare virtual martial law over areas that it feels are under security threat.
According to reports by Al Jazeera, this law would give the government power to “search and arrest without warrants, to seize property without warrants and prevent demonstrations.”
The law was pushed forward by Prime Minister Najib Razak who, the critics accuse is using the law to avoid any political challenges or opponents.
