AMLO Wants Law to Stop Funding Weapons of Mass Destruction

Thailand’s Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) is trying to get a draft law to block funding for mass-destruction weapon production, before the next years assessment of Thailand by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

As The Nation writes, AMLO chief yesterday said that FATF would be sending a team in February to assess Thailand’s financial institutes and see whether the kingdom’s anti-money laundering law were being upheld to international standards.

As such, he says, it’s crucial for Thailand to enforce legislation on the prevention and suppression of money being directed towards the manufacture of such weapons.

The draft law is currently at the public-hearing stage.
