New restrictions have been put in place for vendors on Pattaya and Jomtien beaches, including the ban of alcohol sales, according to Pattaya Mail.
Vendors will also be required to bid annually for their plot of chairs, and run them single-handedly without subleasing.
The restrictions were announced on September 15th by Sanitation Chief Wasinpat Chimtin. He said that they were put in place by the military in order to improve Pattaya’s image during the International Fleet Show, which is scheduled for November. There has also been a crackdown on alcohol advertising, which resulted in Thai police charging a raft house owner for live streaming a bikini party on Facebook.
Under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act 2008, there are restrictions and where and when alcohol can be consumed. Drinking alcohol in temples, pharmacies, schools, gas stations and public parks is illegal and punishable by a fine of up to 10,000 baht and/or up to 6 months imprisonment.
