The law also mentions “sextortion” and promoting child sexual acts
The Alabama criminal code was amended to include a new law which addresses sexual offenses previously not covered by the code.
The bill was developed and promoted by the state attorney general’s office and the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services and was sponsored by Sen. Vivian Figures.
“This new law is an important step forward in updating our criminal code to combat new and troubling forms of sexual misconduct, many of which are made possible by evolving technology,” said Figures of the bill.
According to AL.com, the new law carves out four new sex-related crimes including distribution of intimate and private images also known as “revenge porn” or “nonconsensual pornography”; the use of threatening communications to induce a victim to engage in unwanted sexual activity; assault with bodily fluids and promoting sexual acts among children.
The new law also broadens certain offenses such as “electronic solicitation of a child” to include child-grooming tactics by pedophiles.
