Earl Jones, a 92-year-old farmer and war veteran from Kentucky defended himself when a burglar entered his basement and he fatally shot the man.
When the intruder, Lloyd Maxwell, came up from the basement Earl was waiting for him with this .22 caliber rifle across his knees.
When Lloyd kicked down the door Earl fired sending the robber falling back down the stairs where his two waiting friends dragged his body into a car.
Earl told the Associated Press that he aimed for the man’s heart and that he had a right to own a gun. According to police, this was the third burglary on Earl’s farm this year.
Still, police that responded forced him to put his hands up, even after he declared he owned the property.
