American Biotech Company Provides Rhino Horn Poaching Solution

by Admin on March 21, 2018

In news that echoed around the world on Monday, the last male northern white rhino in the world had passed away. There are only two females left of the white rhinoceros species, which means their breed will become extinct after their passing.

The dangerously dwindling numbers of the rhino population have triggered a Seattle based biotech startup company, Pembient, to try and solve the poaching issue with a 3D printer that would manufacture rhino horns out of Keratin. Pembient CEO, Matthew Markus, says that the printed horns will be genetically identical to the real ones.

Pembient’s objective is to release the fake horns onto the market hopefully lowering the value of rhino horns since it will be close to impossible to tell them apart from the real ones. The lower value for the horns will optimistically lower the incentive for rhino horn poaching.
