The teen could face life as a sex offender
A 14 year old boy from Houston, Texas has been arrested for engaging in sexual intercourse with his 12 year old girlfriend reports The Chronicle.
The junior high student has been charged with aggravated assault of a child and faces the possibility of life as a registered sex offender.
“He had consensual sex with his little girlfriend and he loved her. They were boyfriend-girlfriend,” the teen’s mother told the Chronicle. “And because he turned 14, they want to make him a sex offender, put him on the registry with pedophiles and child molesters—really sick and dangerous people.”
Although the state does have a “Romeo and Juliet” law which allows consensual sex with someone three years younger, the law does not apply to anyone under 14 years of age.
The teens’ criminal defense attorney said that this discrepancy in the law could result in a 14 year old boy being charged with “one of the most serious offenses” the state has.
