The continuing phenomenon of the ‘grey divorce’-where couples over 50 are separating-is starting to cause financial problems for ex-spouses.

A Statistics Canada stated that as baby boomers-their children grown and moved out-reach the retirement-age threshold divorces among couples 65 years old and older are becoming more and more common.

However, these divorces are becoming a costly decision, especially in the senior years. Susan Eng of the nation senior’s advocacy group, CARP, said women have the most to lose in any kind of separation.

Eng said that many of these women have been stay-at-home mothers and once they go through a divorce they don’t have the same financial stability to fall back on as perhaps younger, working women.

One of the added difficulties of a ‘grey divorce’ is that seniors are usually on a fixed income, with little opportunity for financial growth because they are not longer working.

According to Thailand divorce lawyers, foreigners may apply for divorce in Thailand provided that they can establish that they are residents of Thailand, have a ground for divorce, and meet other conditions.
