Bangkok Courthouse Attacked with Grenade, Two Suspects Arrested
Two men were arrested for reportedly throwing hand grenades at the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek and firing on soldiers Saturday night, reports Thai PBS.
Yuttana Yenpinyo and Mahahin Khunthong, both 34, were caught shortly after the attack by nearby on-duty soldiers and were detained for questioning under martial law, according to The Nation.
According to Thai PBS, the grenade landed near the Criminal Court’s car park area, minimally damaging the floor. As of publication, no reports indicate that there were any injuries aside from those of one of the attackers.
Metropolitan Police chief Lt. General Srivara Ransibrahman-akul said they believed the latest attack was politically motivated, reports The Nation.
At a press conference Sunday night, one suspect, Yenpinyo, said the group he’s connected to communicated via the social network, Line, and that bomb attacks had been planned in at least 100 places mostly throughout the capital.
The Criminal Court resumed its regular schedule on Monday with increased security. Both uniformed and plainclothes security has also been reportedly boosted at all important state offices, commercial areas, bus terminals, and train stations in Bangkok.
