Baby Gammy: Australia Investigates Father, Convicted Child Sex Offender
Firstpost.com reports the father of baby Gammy and his twin sister, who were both born in Thailand by a surrogate, is being investigated by Australian authorities due to his former pedophile convictions.
The Australian man and his wife became known internationally after being accused by the Thai surrogate mother of abandoning Gammy, who was born with Down syndrome, and taking his twin sister Pipah back to Australia.
Shortly after the abandonment allegations, the father’s convictions as a child sex offender became known. According to Firstpost, the man did a three year sentence in his twenties for molestation, and was accused of six more charges of “indecently dealing with a child” in 1997.
Darren O’Malley, spokesman for the Western Australia Department for Child Protection, confirmed that an investigation had been launched, reports Firstpost.
“A full investigation is being conducted into the safety and welfare of the child involved,” O’Malley said.
