Hot! Government Hospitals in Thailand Begin Medical Marijuana Distribution

Thailand’s state hospitals have finally begun distributing cannabis oils to patients in need under the country’s medical marijuana law passed late last year.

The government hospitals received 4,500 bottles of cannabis extract that will be given to patients who suffer from certain chronic conditions such as cancer or epilepsy.

Patients who qualify or who have bought into government universal health programs will receive the cannabis oils for free should they be given a prescription from a certified doctor or traditional Thai medical practitioner.

Over 400 doctors and 2,900 traditional Thai traditional medical practitioners have been certified by the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prescribe cannabis oils to patients.

Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) will work alongside other government agencies and farmer co-ops to produce upwards of 200,000 bottles of medical cannabis oil per month in the Kingdom.

By 2024, the Thai medical cannabis market is expected to surpass $660 million.
