Hot! Egypt Proposes ExtremeAnti-Gay Law

A “deeply discriminatory” bill has been proposed in Egypt, which would make sex between same-sex couples illegal, Amnesty International reports.

If the draft bill comes into law, those convicted could be jailed for up to 15 years and publicly shamed by having their names and sentences published in national newspapers.

The legislation came as part of an ongoing crackdown on the LGBT community which recently resulted in a group of men being arrested for raising a rainbow flag at a concert and being forced to undergo anal examinations.

The law would also prohibit the promotion of LGBT events and the display of LGBT symbols. Punishment for these offences would be up to three years in prison.
