Bizarre Finnish Video Suggests Women Use “The Force” To Prevent Rape

Finnish police have released a strange training video called “Say No!” in response to the sharp rise of rapes and gang rapes in Finland.

In a country where pepper spray is illegal, the police could be praised for suggesting an alternative to fight back against potential rapists, but the video – which sees a woman merely holding up her hands and using “the force” to ward off an unwanted advance, seems a few steps away from reality.

In Finland, possession of pepper spray is punishable by up to six months behind bars. The government argues that in disarming law abiding citizens, crime will decrease.

The reality however is that the crime rate is only increasing.

This really does beg the question – on what planet does an imaginary force prevent women from rape? And how on earth did anyone think they could get away with this video without ridicule?

Editorial comment:

With the sudden influx of refugees, many of whom don’t appear concerned by the weapon laws in their new country earning the nickname “rape-fugees.”

This video is, frankly, insulting to women and in particular those who have fallen victim to sexual violence. The idea that you could just “say no” to a potential rapist is preposterous. We’re not sure we have an alternative suggestion to dodging rape if carrying weapons is not permitted, but merely holding your hands up is unlikely to deter even the most unmotivated attacker.

Just last week a Danish girl pulled a pepper spray on a man who pulled her to the ground and tried to undress her. With the pepper spray she was able to discourage the attacker who fled the scene. She is now being charged for possessing the pepper spray – the pepper spray that saved her.

There is an unbalance here – criminals will always be armed to the teeth, but vulnerable women must look to little more than luck to escape an attacker.

This problem brings to mind the argument currently taking place in the United States regarding guns: Criminals will always have weapons. If you take away the weapons of law abiding citizens, you make them victims.
