Men Arrested for Death of Phuket Tourist
Phuket police have arrested the two men who carried out a knife attack on two Australian tourists that left one woman dead and another injured.
The attack occurred at Phuket’s Kata Beach and is believed to have been a botched bag snatch attempt. Michelle Smith and Tammee Lynn were walking back to their hotel around 10 p.m. when two men approached them on a motorbike. According to Chalong Police the passenger attacked the women with a knife then the men fled the scene without taking any belongings.
Smith died en route to the hospital while Lynn survived but has sustained severe injuries. The two men have been charged with killing the 60-year-old Smith and have been sentenced to life in prison. According to Thailand criminal defense lawyers, murder is a capital offense in Thailand.
