Shock Over US Shooting of TV Anchor Live On Air

Wednesdays’s shooting of TV anchor Alison Parker, 24 and cameraman Adam Ward, 27 of WDBJ-TV in Virginia has caused shockwaves, however although the gunman is dead, the investigations are far from over, reports CNN.

Vester Flanagan, who went by the pseudonym Bryce Williams, was a former employee of the station. He opened fire during a live broadcast yesterday, killing both Parker, Ward, and injuring the woman Parker was interviewing.

Flanagan was tracked down in his vehicle by police, and then turned his gun on himself.

Authorities aim to study potential motives by analyzing the gunman’s social media posts, as well as his attempts to reach out to media outlets including ABC, in the time proceeding the incident.

County Sheriff Bill Overton said authorities weren’t sure about the gunman’s motive, however there have been reports that Flanagan felt he was unfairly dismissed from his post at the station, and made remarks about unfair racial treatment.

Overton said:

“Many of you have gotten a lot of the correspondence, emails that had been sent out. It’s obvious that … this gentleman was disturbed in some way of the way things had transpired […] at some point in his life, things spiraled out of control.”
