Intellectual Property Dept Scrambling for US Status Upgrade
Thailand’s Intellectual Property Department is scrambling to persuade the US to upgrade Thailand’s status on its “watch list.” The IP Dept. submitted a plan for the year to the US, describing the activities and proposed legal amendments it would take to show it’s protecting intellectual property rights. Amendments include revisions to the Trademark Act, the Anti-Money-Laundering Act, the Copyright Act and the Customs Act.
The US government has a list of trading partners that it releases yearly, and Thailand had previously been included in the “Priority Watch List” — the “second lowest ranking given to countries alleged by Washington to be violating IP rights.”
