Fox News Reporter in Court, Refused to Reveal Sources
Fox News reporter Jana Winter is in court this week, after refusing to divulge how she received confidential information about Colorado shooter James Holmes.
The New-York based reporter broke an exclusive story about a notebook Holmes sent to his psychiatrists, which held drawings that foreshadowed the Aurora movie theater shooting. The hearing will determine whether a gag order was violated, and whether or not Winter will be ordered to testify on how she obtained the confidential information. Winter initially cited anonymous law enforcement officials as her source.

If Winter’s source was originally from Colorado — who then transferred the information to an official in New York — the case may not be subject to a gag order.
The judge in the case will first question the law enforcement official before putting Winter on the stand to reveal her sources. The case is being watch by journalists and media watchdogs, as it would have ramifications on First Amendment protections.
